Colmar is the administrative capital of the department of French, Haut Rhin. the city is part of the German empire. Colmar joined the French in 1697. Colmar is renowned for its well preserved old town, its numerous architectural landmarks and its museum.
Colmar is 64 kilometres southwest of Strasbourg, it is located directly to the east of Vosges mountains and connected to the Rhine in the west by canal. Colmar has a sunny microclimate and is the one of the driest city in France. the dryness results from the town location next to mountain which force clouds arriving from the west to rise and much of their mouisture to condense and fall as precipitation over the higher ground, leaving the air warmed and dried by the time its reaches Colmar.
